One Day...

When we eventually get some land and build our dream house this is what I want it to look like.

I'm serious.  I want to buy something very old with buckets of character that we can renovate and make our own.  Like this brave pair have.

Lisa and Mark Hellman undertook a yearlong renovation and restoration of this 106-year-old home that had stood abandoned for 25 years when they bought it.

Haven't they done the most tremendous job!  Read more about the Hellman's renovation here.

I get it, it's the project of a lifetime and the work it will take, let's not even get started!  BUT I find these sorts of transformations utterly inspiring and love the soul (and by that I don't mean a cranky ghost) that comes with an old home.  You just can't build it into a brand new one.

  1. I totally agree! New homes have no soul (or juju as I call it). Some places have bad juju too, it just depends on how the place feels when you walk in the door. New places don't have a feeling.

  2. It just makes me so happy when an orphaned house is given a new family and tons of restorational love!
This one that you shared today is simply stunning and I too dream of a house like this!

    Just gorgeous Nicole!

  3. Wow. Somebody please pat those people on the back, and get them a refreshing drink. Is that a real duck sitting at the bottom of the bannister? Mercy.

  6. WOW! What a fun project. Love the before and after shots! The bones of the house are so great and it's wonderful to see it come back to life! Amazing.

  7. I always have wanted to buy a house to fix up-my husband tells me to have a good time, he wants no part of it. But I completely understand why this is a dream of yours. (I do get a case of cold feet every time I watch Flip This House though!)
