I Heart NY
Sorry for the rather lacklustre posting this week but I think I've got a good excuse...
...after years and years and YEARS of dreaming (and I do mean that literally, I have walked the streets of Manhattan in my sleep) we have decided to go to New York for a holiday.
I am utterly consumed by our plans and have been able to concentrate on little else. I guess you could say "I'm lost between the moon and New York City" ;)

Tuesday Torture
Thanks to an uncooperative computer last night it's a Wednesday afternoon post...
...well, from the depths of despair last week to the heights of euphoria this week, I lost a whopping 1.9kg (!). This brings my total loss to 10.6kg meaning I am over a third of the way there. Ecstatic!
I also got to my 10% (as in I'd lost 10% of the weight I first weighed in at) which is one of the goals WW likes to celebrate. Of course it was excruciatingly mortifying answering questions about my loss, what I am doing and how all this is making me feel in front of the group (which of course was exceptionally large yesterday evening) BUT still a small price to pay for the loss itself!
So the moral of the story, does there have to be one? Well for me it's DON'T GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! No matter, how many bad days or sometimes even weeks you have, don't throw the towel in altogether, keep plodding away. I fight with myself every single day as I try not to give in to food whims & fancies and every single day it's a battle to put on my sneakers and go for a walk. Yes, I've had a good week this time but last week was bloody terrible and who knows if this week will turn out how I hope it will?! So for me it boils down to this, if I make an effort more of the time than I don't, even if that only tips the balance slightly in my favour, in the end I will lose weight.
Wow, I really did get a bit evangelical this time didn't I! Terribly sorry, don't mean to be, just v chuffed and feeling the love today :)

Enzo Mari: La Mela
Along with the stencilled baskets and the I-want-it-checkered table, it was Enzo Mari's La Mela, (the apple in case you haven't already worked it out) print that really stood out in Hank Azaria's playroom the other day.

Tuesday Torture
I put 600g on this week and I'm pretty bloody frustrated to be honest. It's not gracious at all as you've all been unbelievably supportive but I feel too flat to go into the why why why and the sight of that damn graph will send me over the edge I'm sure.
What you should know is that I haven't given up and I am going to try harder this week but I have certainly given up talking about it for today.

At Home: Hank Azaria
The August issue of AD takes us inside the home of Hank Azaria and a big thank you to the ladies over at Casa Trez Chic for alerting me to the feature. The Monteroy Colonial style home was built in 1932.
I love the custom made monster couches (how long are they!) from Zimmer + Rohde in the living room.
This is the room that sucked me in to the article, in particular, the chair. I want it.
The carrara marble bench top on the island is probably my favourite feature in the kitchen. I don't know if the rest if really works for me.
Hank's home office where he keeps his Emmys (do you spy them off in the background there?) Must confess though, I'm not crazy about plaid.
The checkered pattern on the Danish farm table in the play room is fabelagtig and I am sure I have seen that Enzo Mari apple print in other homes of the rich and famous (you know I'll be off on a hunt now don't you).

An outdoor living room, so lovely.

The Reading Group
The other night I finished reading The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul, which is the July read for my book club. Yes, I am one of those nerds. I'd been searching for a reading group to join (my local library told me there was a waiting list of 10+ people for theirs. Mercy, what are they reading in there?) when a friend started one up right under my nose :)
So, my reading group aspirations are simple: I'm not expecting to like all the selections, it's not the point - I want to be exposed to books and authors that aren't on my radar and to be challenged by ideas and issues I don't normally think about. Oh, and a great cup of coffee (vino anyone?) when we meet to discuss the book.
Now, there are 18 members in our group and with our licorice-all-sorts personalities I can't help but wonder if something like this could happen one day?

Lonny: July/August Issue
As most of you probably already know the new issue of Lonny magazine came out a few days ago. Is it OK to say I was a little underwhelmed with it? It's usually so full of enticing images and decor but this not time, not so much...of course there was some good in it so I'll share it with you.
One of the first things that grabbed my attention was the brief history of the Art Deco movement. As I love the architecture (I still say the Chrysler Building is by far the most magnificent testament to this era) and especially lighting I was eager to soak up the facts:

- The style came of age between the two world wars, specifically in the April of 1925.
- Although it has modernist origins it is highly informed by traditional design.
- It is characterised by taut geometric lines and arches.

I thought Ruthie Sommers tips for transforming a fixer-upper on p157 were great:
- Buy great artwork.
- Fill it with things you love.
- Create tablescapes and collect books.
- Seek out high-quality investment pieces.
- Throw many a party with lots of happy people.
I like the thought/presentation that's gone into this drinks tray.
I'm a little bit crazy about these mirrored frames.
And that sadly was it :( Am happy to be proven wrong if you can point out anything fab that I've missed but until then I wait patiently for an improvement in the next issue.
